Empowering Children For Life

Contemporary Waldorf Education from 3 to 18 years

Welcome!

‘Excellence in education using Waldorf principles is at the heart of everything we do’

Welcome to our dynamic, all-through Waldorf school.

Intellectual curiosity, confidence and compassion along with critical thinking and a passion for life characterise our pupils.

Our outstanding contemporary Waldorf curriculum is from 3 to 18 years, with pupils gaining the international NZCSE qualification - seen by UK universities and UCAS as equivalent to IB & A-Levels.

We’re creating future leaders, innovators, problem-solvers and agile-thinkers - enabling people to always be the best of themselves, as they grow from the child they are today to becoming the adult of tomorrow.

Come to see us in action! Visit our Kindergarten, Lower, Middle and Upper School.

An extraordinary education from 3-18

Creating the innovators and leaders of tomorrow

Why choose us?

Integrated & Holistic Curriculum

Waldorf education is expertly designed to meet the academic, physical and emotional developmental needs of children from 3-18 years. Our curriculum expands in breadth, depth and complexity as pupils progress from the early and primary years through to becoming teenagers and young adults.

Teaching is academically rigorous and delivered through integrated and dynamic themes rather than narrow single subjects, going beyond remembering facts and figures to enabling independent thinking and an understanding of how to use knowledge.

Every element of our curriculum is interconnected to enable holistic learning and thinking. Achievements and educational attainment are based on in-depth multi-disciplinary projects and year-long continuous assessments, with our students graduating with the NZCSE 3-year qualification, recognised in the UK and internationally.

Original & Critical Thinkers

We create students with the capacity for lively, curious and creative thinking, able to work well with others and become balanced, well-adjusted and, importantly, happy and confident individuals.

Our classes are ‘whole-brain activities’ that challenge pupils to bring together cognitive ability, sequential thinking, physical skills & artistic sensibility.

STEM subjects, languages and humanities are all integrated, with art, crafts, music, sport and movement as part of every day school life.

We create meaningful learning in which experience underpins knowledge, and explore academic subject matter in-depth, with self-driven research and project work from a young age.

In a world where information is at the click of a button we’re ambitious for our children. We empower them with the ability to problem solve, come up with ideas and think ‘outside-the-box’ with a ‘can-do’ attitude, developing a holistic knowledge and insight of subjects.

Joyful & Immersive Education

From our Kindergarten all the way to our 18-year olds, we put our young people at the heart of everything we do. Our joyful and immersive education empowers children to become capable, thoughtful, ethical and resilient individuals, able to thrive as they grow.

Learning includes experiential trips, visits, physical activities and practical projects along with the arts and sport. Our Waldorf classes have a sense of team-work, community and camaraderie, where the individuality of each child is acknowledged and celebrated.

We introduce technology in education in Class 6, at the developmentally appropriate age 11-12, and then use it as a tool to enhance real-life learning rather than replace it.

Our children are able to confidently find their place in the modern world, to be happy in themselves and make a positive contribution to society.

We put young people at the heart of education

"Waldorf education places the development of the individual child in the focal point…"

Our Upper School is the pathway to university and beyond and covers the final four years of school up to the age of 18. We enable pupils to thrive as they develop into happy and confident young adults.

Our Waldorf curriculum increases in depth and breadth with projects integrating maths, sciences, languages, humanities, arts and crafts, plus sports, international trips and visits.

Students study the international 3-year NZCSE qualification plus sit Maths & English GCSE.

Lower & Middle School: Age 7-14

Formal education begins in Class 1 with the foundations of mathematics and literacy being taught interactively and interwoven into all subjects. Specialist French and German language classes begin along with music and movement.

We track academic progress and attainment through on-going teacher assessment rather than formal testing or exams and children develop a lifelong love of learning.

We’re part of something bigger

Welcome to Waldorf

Waldorf schools form the largest group of independent schools in the world with 1,200+ schools in 80 countries - from the UK, France and Germany, across Europe and Scandinavia to the USA, South Africa, India, Kenya, South America, the Middle East, Japan, Thailand, China, Taiwan, Norway, Australia and Tanzania.

State-funded in many European countries, Waldorf is multi-cultural and non-religious. Schools thrive in an array of diverse cultures and spiritual beliefs with the local curriculum reflecting each country’s own heritage.

Waldorf Schools were some of the first schools in South Africa to educate white and black children in the same class. In the Middle East the Ein Bustan school on the West Bank brings together Arab and Jewish colleagues to work side by side educating Arab and Jewish children together. The Holywood Steiner School in Northern Ireland was one of the first schools to teach both Catholic and Protestant children together.

Waldorf education is inspired by the innovative Austrian academic and philosopher Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925) who applied his ideas to education, medicine, architecture and social reform.

A very human education.

The world that our children are growing up into is changing rapidly. Research by the OECD shows creativity and critical thinking are key skills needed for our complex, globalised and increasingly digitalised economies and societies.

Our Waldorf education prepares children to be the adults of tomorrow with a positive and caring relationship to people, society and the environment we live in.

We teach young people to interrogate the world and find intellectual and practical solutions to problems so they grow into balanced adults with the self-belief to embrace whatever changes happen in their lifetime, and play an active part in their world.

We are a leading UK Waldorf independent school and proud to be part of the global Waldorf network. This short film by the Association of Waldorf Schools North America commemoraties 100 Years of Waldorf education.
